Sivan Alyra Rose, a 17 year old actress and tribal citizen of the San Carlos Apache, became the first Native American to play a lead role in a Netflix series after landing the role of Sasha in upcoming drama Chambers, starring Oscar nominee Uma Thurman and Scandal star Tony Goldwyn.
Rose was spotted by a casting director whilst modelling at the Santa Fe Indian Art Market. Within months of moving to LA, she won the role in Chambers, which launched in April, playing a teenage heart attack survivor who’s consumed by the mystery of the donor heart which saved her life. The young actress said she hopes her performance on the show will not only advance her career, but also make ‘real changes’ in Hollywood for Native Americans, inspiring more budding Native actors to pursue their dreams of stardom.
